Allagash Brewing - The Cellars

The Cellars at Allagash Brewing

Portland, ME | Architect: Grant-Hays Associates | Photography: Allagash Brewing Company

Allagash Brewing, one of Maine’s most celebrated craft breweries, envisioned a new kind of tasting experience—an immersive, ticketed tour and sampling session set within their barrel-aging and proprietary brewing operations. Dubbed The Cellars, the space was designed to offer a more curated, intimate experience centered around their limited-edition and small-batch beers.

Working in close collaboration with Allagash and Grant-Hays Associates, the lighting design was crafted to transform a massive warehouse environment into something more personal and experiential—without losing the brand’s iconic warmth and authenticity. Oversized pendant clusters were used strategically to bring down the scale of the high ceilings, establishing clearly defined gathering areas for storytelling, tasting, and conversation.

The lighting concept balances the raw industrial architecture with a refined, welcoming glow—mirroring the dual identity of The Cellars as both part of the larger Allagash family and a destination in its own right. Focused accents and ambient warmth help guide visitors through the experience, elevating both the product and the story behind it.
